Pastor Pablo and Obrero Roberto

Pastor Pablo Sacul Chub (pictured above in front of the pulpit at the Iglesia Puerta del Cielo in the La Union village west of El Estor) is the president of the presbytery. Pastor Gerardo and he were the two men the presbytery sent this past November to participate in the Guatemala Mission Network gathering at Lago de Amatitlan and talk with Elena and Estefani. Reportedly 73, Pablo opened several of the worship services and the partnership dialogues. He and his family also hosted Raul (Lowell) at their home. He's the father of Benjamin Sacul, pastor of the Familia de Noe church and the presbytery's representative to the synod (the national church).

We know less about Roberto Caal, the man who seemed even more part of the Iglesia Puerto del Cielo. His wife and several children were evident during the brief event for our visit at the church. I’m guessing the presbytery would categorize Roberto as an obrero. (An obero is something akin to an inquirer or perhaps a commissioned lay pastor in PC(USA) parlance.) (The official presbytery publication that Rene put together also ties Antonio Tec to this church although we spoke with him at the Barrio El Chupon mission of the larger Arca de Noe church.)

  1. I am a US parent who adopted a daughter with a birthmother from El Estor. I have come across some information in your blog that may help in my search for my daughter's birth family. I would like to contact someone who works in Guatemala, but cannot find contact info. Please help. wkwinters@yahoo.com
