Iglesia Puerta del Cielo

From the Iglesia San Jorge in northern El Estor (on Sunday afternoon) we went to the first of two small, very new missions on the outskirts west of town. The first one was not too too far from where Raul (Lowell) was staying. In fact Pastor Pablo Sacul was officially listed in charge, as was Elena’s friend Antonio. But the man who seemed to be in charge was Roberto Caal. When we first arrived at this small building in El Barrio La Union, the church was locked. But Roberto and others showed up, and their church with five families and some 22 members, just a couple of months old, was a nice counterpoint to the loud and charismatic style San Jorge church. (When we first got in, a boy of the church goofed around a bit in the pulpit. Notice the thin walls that let both sun and ventilation (no doubt as well as rain) in.)

Two shy young women – I think Roberto’s daughters – with no sound system – sand and quiet, sweet duet, and before and after Roberto and maybe one or two others spoke

And then we were whisked away in the truck and down the road again.
