Old friends

During our visit to El Estor, Elena met two old friends from another part of Guatemala, closer to where she lived. Both now live in the El Estor area. Antonio (below) told Elena that business interests (palm oil growers?) had offered his community money for their land, and they eventually sold out. Elena had worked with Lucia (pictured above with her eyes shut) with her work with Presbyterian Women. We ran into Lucia at the Sunday night service at the Arca de Noe, after which Elena - unfortunately - had to run to go home with her host family. We got to talk with Antonio a little more leisurely because we saw him Sunday afternoon at the two mission churches we visited, which he is helping pastor, and the next day during our conversations at the Espiritu Santo church. Elena (who lived in Guatemala for 11 years) has lots of friends in Guatemala, and - unfortunately - on short, intensive trips, it's difficult for her to see any of them. During our last day or so in Guatemala, Elena did call a few friends on her Guatemala cell phone.
