On the verge
Pastor Carlos talked with Pastor Gerardo (pictured above this past November), of the Arca de Noe church, El Estor’s largest evangelical Presbyterian church, Tuesday night. At an Estoreño Izabal presbytery meeting this past weekend, those assembled were excited the coming visit by Crescent Hill folks. Gerardo was particularly excited our session was meeting this week and he wanted Carlos to pass on his greetings to the session.
Gerardo alerted Carlos to some slight changes in the schedule. On the drive from Rio Dulce to El Estor Saturday, the mission trip folks will stop at two congregations in the presbytery, along the way. At the second of these congregations, the group will participate in a full-blown worship service. Late Wednesday Ben agreed to preach at this service.
Sunday morning and Monday morning the mission team will talk with presbytery leaders about the principles and hopefully text of a congregation-to-presbytery partnership covenant. Sunday afternoon and evening the group will visit THREE congregations, with worship Sunday night in the last of those three congregations, with Pastor Jane preaching.
Monday – after partnership negotiations in the morning – we will visit one more congregation. I can’t recall if this will include a full-blown worship service. On the whole, this trip will connect us more directly with more of the growing number of congregations in the presbytery than the 2005 trips.
As I understand it, the basic schedule of staying and visiting with our hosts families (Saturday and Sunday – but when will we have time to visit?) and eating with them (Sunday breakfast, Sunday supper, and Monday breakfast?) and all together (Saturday supper, Sunday lunch, and Monday lunch?) will stay the same.
On the weather/apparel front, Ellen said the high at an airport near El Estor will be 104 degrees and back in Guatemala City will be 84 degrees. No coats will be needed, she said.
